☆ About Me ☆

Name: Stephanie

Nicknames: Steph, Slim, Surimu-chan

Birthday: October 23, 1990 (Age 26)

Height: 157 cm

Blood Type: I’m not sure, but, based on my parents’ blood types and the way I act, I’m guessing I’m type A (^_^”)>

Favorite colors: Greens and Blues

Favorite foods: Pizza, stir-fry, trail mix

Disliked foods: Seafood, under- or over-cooked meat, meat with a lot of fat… a lot of others (I’m really picky ^_^”)

Favorite flowers: Lilies, foxgloves… many others

Favorite season: Autumn (but I really like the transition between winter and spring, too; the “thaw”)

Other Info [Updated 1/18/2017]

– Besides the Hello! Project groups, I also like Johnny’s Entertainment groups (especially Arashi and NEWS’ older music), and Gackt’s older music. Gackt’s song “Redemption” was the first Japanese song I heard. ^_^

– I love RPGs…. well, mostly Final Fantasy. (^_^’)> I also love Chrono Cross~, Bravely Default, and Fire Emblem: Awakening! ^__^ I enjoy the Metroidvania-type Castlevania games, too (Symphony of the Night is probably my favorite~). I also recently got into Pokémon.

– I hop from obsession to obsession, but there are a few that I’ve held onto over the years, including Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit and The Chronicles of Narnia. My previous mega-obsessions were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (I still like them; I’m just not collecting everything now XD). At the moment, I’m really into watching wrestling. 😄 My favorite wrestlers are Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles~.

– I do like some anime and manga, though it’s rather hard for me to find any manga in my area. My favorite anime are InuYasha, Saiunkoku Monogatari, Rurouni Kenshin, and City Hunter. I used to watch Gintama and Ouran High School Host Club back in the day, too. For manga, I haven’t read much (I haven’t read any in years, actually), but I like InuYasha and Gintama.

– I really love Japanese dramas including the following: Hana Yori Dango, Gokusen, Hana-Kimi, Nobuta wo Produce, Maou, Ryuusei no Kizuna, Orthros no Inu, MR. BRAIN, Atashinchi no Danshi, Mei-chan no Shitsuji, Q.E.D., Tokyo Dogs, Untouchable, Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, and Kaibutsu-kun.

– As far as my dancing goes, I no longer accept requests for anything other than mirrored and/or slowed versions of dances I’ve already done. I’m sorry! =(

For my blog headers, some of the Photoshop brushes I use are from Obsidian Dawn (www.obsidiandawn.com). Please check out the site; it’s amazing~! ^_^

Can you give me tips on how to learn Japanese?

Thanks and I love your dancing!!!!!!!

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Thank you for watching my videos~! ^__^

Let’s see, tips for learning Japanese… I’m actually just a beginner myself, so I’m not sure how much I can help. (^_^”)> I’ll try, though!

I suppose it would differ depending on your learning style. Here are a few methods for each:
Visual (you learn best by seeing things) – Flashcards and charts are helpful for this type of learning style. Another thing you could try is making kanji characters into pictures to make them easier to remember.
Auditory (you learn best by hearing things) – Listen-and-repeat type exercises could work if you are more auditory. Also, listening to music and looking at the lyrics could help you figure out some vocabulary and basic sentence structure.
Kinesthetic (you learn best by doing things) – Having someone quiz you on kanji flashcards or play a game of memory with kanji characters could be of some help, as well as doing short skits with basic Japanese sentences for the dialogue.

Right now, I’m learning by studying kanji from a workbook and writing each out many times, but I’m learning more vocabulary and sentences from listening to music, watching dramas, anime, and TV shows, and reading blogs written in Japanese. It’s very slow going, because I’m teaching myself. (^_^”) Hopefully this helped a bit!

It was so nice! I am lucky I found them tonight.
Hope you come to Japan !!

    Surimu-channn~
I just found you on Youtube via your Bad Apple tutorial. You. Are. A LIFESAVER. My boyfriend dared me to do a dance video, and I wanted to do Bad Apple since it was actually a song i showed him when we first met. Anyway, I’m a terrible learn-from-scratch person, so your tutorial will come in quite handy. Thank you very much for your efforts! Gambatte kudasai. ^_^
    P.S, Ouran is amazing. :3

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Ah~, sorry for the late reply. m(_ _)m I’m glad my tutorial can be of some help! =D Thank you for visiting my blog, and thanks very much for your comment; I really appreciate it when viewers take the time to leave a comment. ^_^ And yes… Ouran is amazing. 😄 I’m quite enjoying the live action drama, too~. Thanks for writing!

    Surimu-chan,

You are an amazing dancer, really! You put a lot of energy into the dances and it is very clear that you enjoy it ^^

😀 And thank for uploading all the tutorials that you do, they’re very helpful for my friend and I to learn dances!

    • Surimu-chan Says:

I’m sorry for taking so long to write back! m(_ _)m Thank you so much for your comment~! I sincerely appreciate it when viewers take the time to leave me a comment, especially on my blog. I’m so glad you like my dances, and I’m also very happy that my tutorials can be of some help. Thanks again for writing~! ^__^

  8. Nathan Pralle (@npralle) Says:

こにちわ! My 4-year-old son and I are learning Japanese together and he happened upon your Mushi no Koe dance on YT and *adores* it. He dances all around to it and watches it over and over. We are working together to learn the song, the words, and even right now he’s practicing his writing using the lyrics. Thanks so very much for putting these online! 🙂

    • Surimu-chan Says:

こんにちは~! Sorry for taking so long to reply! m(_ _)m I’m so happy to hear that my dance cover of “Mushi no Koe” made a good impression~. ^_^ I really enjoyed doing dance covers for some of the Hello! Project Douyou Pops songs, though I wish that more of them had dances. Thank you for watching my videos, and good luck learning Japanese! I’ll be working hard to do so as well. ^_^

  9. Michaella Marra Says:

Hiya!! My name is Michaella. (15 years old) 😀 I just wanted to say that you’re dancing is very inspirational!! I just learned your Matryoshka dance through your tutorials on YouTube and I learned it in about a week! I can tell you really like dancing by the effort you put into your dances. ^^ I absolutely LOVE dancing too! Once I saw that dance, I practiced everyday when I got home from school and I practiced until I had to go to bed. :3 I just love that dance so much because it was so challenging to learn! Thank goodness for your tutorials because when I learn dances, I usually watch a video and play it over and over so that I could see what they’re doing. But that Matryoshka dance…ahh, I couldn’t imagine having to learn that through only watching. :DD Haha. But anyway, I have it learned, but I’m still not as good as you are! You have that effect with your movements that just gives me goosebumps! I try to do that…but I fail. 😀 lol I’ll keep practicing, but I just wanted to tell you how much I admire you! Dancing takes a lot of work and time!! I’ve been blabbing to my sister about how much I’d like to know you in real life because I’ve been wanting a friend that’s as passionate for dancing as I am! (Even though you’re like, 6 years older than me…haha. xD) I’m hoping I don’t seem like some sort of creeper when I say I wish I knew you in real life, but I just wanted to give you the credit you deserve for your amazing dancing!! ^w^ lol I apologize for the long message. 🙂 Good luck with your dancing!!! :DD And keep up the good work!!

    • Surimu-chan Says:

      Hello, Michaella!
Thank you so much for your message! ^__^ I’m glad that the “Matryoshka” tutorial was helpful~. To be honest, the only way I can learn dances is by watching them over and over. 😄 I’ve tried mirrored videos and slowed videos, but I kept messing up, and I am, unfortunately, too impatient to use tutorials. (^_^”)> I’m happy that I can help others by making them, though. =D
I’m very flattered that you admire me (I’m still completely floored by the fact that anyone even watches my dances!) and that you find my dancing inspirational. T_T You don’t sound like a creeper at all. 😄 I know how you feel; I don’t know anyone in my area who has similar interests. orz
Again, thank you so very much for your message~. I really appreciate it!

      ~ Stephanie

      • Michaella Marra Says:

:3 Wow, I can only learn a few dances by watching them over and over…haha but this dance was so involved, I don’t think I could follow it without slowing it down. I’m with you on the mirrored and slowed dancing though! I can’t do mirrored…but slowing them down somewhat helps. (: (Do you have any idea how good you are?! lol Better than most, so of course people are going to watch! ^^ I was actually comparing your video to other “Matryoshka” dance videos and yours was soo much better than the rest!! :3) Yay, I’m so glad I don’t sound like a creeper! lol Aww, if I lived near you, I would TOTALLY dance with you!!! Sorry, I’m kind of a talkative person…if I’m bothering you, just let me know! lol (: And you’re veryy welcome!! xDD

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Ah~, thank you! (=^_^=)> I’m really not all that good, though. I just don’t have much of a social life, so I spend a lot of time practicing dances. orz Oh, you’re not bothering me~! ^_^ Sorry for taking so long to write back~. m(_ _)m I had replied to most of my messages, but then I got a bunch more before I could finish with the ones I had. orz

      • Michaella Marra Says:

You’re welcome! 🙂 lol Oh, yes you are, missy! xD Aww, join the club. I’m always looking on YouTube for new anime dances to learn that are challenging, but usually the camera is moving so I can’t see what the people are doing…(With anime computer animation dances) Oh, good! 😀 It’s alright, don’t worry about it! I took forever to write back too. lol 🙂

  10. Michaella Marra Says:

And by the way…my sister’s name is Stephanie too!! Haha. ^-^ Beautiful name though…(:

  11. Takeru Says:

You are officially my dance teacher… your videos are awesome! Thanks a lot!

  12. Neko-chan Says:

Your dancing is amazing! The first video I watched of you was Bad apple, and I fell in love with it. Of course, being the otaku i am, I had to learn the lyrics to the song, and now I’m learning the dance along w/ my best friend. We’re gonna perform it at a Talent show at school in a month!

  13. Ellen Says:

I just started to watch your tutorials and they made me want to dance all the time 😄 Then I realized that I was going to have a big test after the weekend. There is just something with your movements that inspires me to dance ^_^ I’m gonna watch all of your tutorials so I (i hope) become as good as you are! I, myself, do lots of things but I don’t get really good any of them 😄 But I hope that dancing will be something that I can be good on ^_^ I really hope that you can get some more time so you can either dance or be with friends ^_^ But most dance 😄

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Thank you for watching my videos~! I hope the tutorials can be of some help to you~. ^_^
Well, I don’t have many friends, so any extra time I get will probably be spent on dancing anyway. (^_^”)>
Good luck with your dancing! =D

      • Ellen Says:

No problem ^_^ They are!! 😀
        You don’t? D: Aww… That’s bad… but kinda good too ^^ You can dance more then 😄
        Thanks!! 😀

  14. Jordan Says:

Woah, I thought you were alot taller O_O Camera adds alot of illusion apparently cuz I thought you were at or just past 5’6″
    (Hope this dont seem mean)

Btw love your videos keep posting :D!

  15. Katee Says:

I don’t mean to pry, but how old are you (give or take a few years if you want)? I only ask because I’ve been thinking of doing some J-pop dances and I’m 20, and after looking at all these other girls doing it on YouTube who are a few years younger than I am… well, it’s a bit intimidating.

Other than that, thank you so much for your dance tutorials! They’re absolute lifesavers when trying to learn them! I’m starting to learn Bad Apple, which is kind of a doozy seeing it’s kinda long and I’m not much of a dancer. You’re amazing. ^_^

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Oh! You’re not prying~. I have my age on my YouTube channel; I guess I didn’t even think to put it on here. (^_^”)> I’m twenty-one years old (I’ll be twenty-two in October). =D There’s no need to feel intimidated by any of the other dancers, younger or older; just have fun learning the dances~!

I’m very happy that my tutorials can be of some help! ^__^ I’m going to feel like an absolute jerk when I stop making them (… well, I already do feel like one), but I hope that everyone who uses my tutorials will be able to get so used to repeating sections, counting out the beats, etc. that they can continue to learn dances on their own when it gets to that point (which is why I also made the dance tips video). (^_^”)>

Thanks very much for watching my videos~! Good luck learning “Bad Apple!!” =D

  16. Nagi w Says:

Hello!! I’m really bad in english but you are amazing dancing. Really. I try to dance some jpop song (specially Vocaloid) but I can not even dance whole caramelldansen jajaja. Well, as I said, still dancing please!!

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Hello~! I’m so glad you like my dancing! =D I’m sure you can dance if you just continue to practice patiently~. I have some dance tutorials available on my channel if you’d like to try using those to learn some dances, though I’m not sure how helpful they would be. (^_^”)> I’ll continue dancing as long as I’m able! ^_^

  17. dancingismylife0509 Says:

Hey Surimu-chan! ^-^ My name is Jynaie and I’m 15. Surprisingly, I’m a lot younger but a little taller, I’m 5.3! The camera really adds on height, not to be mean or anything, but I thought you were like 5.5 or 5.6. I just want to say you have inspired me to continue dancing and learning dances! I even started to get my friend into dancing too! The first video I found of yours was the Melancholic dance cover and that help me learn the dance completely! Now I’m working on Hare Hare Yukai and Bad Apple and your covers really help! Sorry I’m rambling but I just can’t thank you enough for your amazing dancing and I get a kick out of watching your blooper videos cause of how much you laugh if you mess up. I hope you continue to dance and have fun doing so. You dance so beautifully and someday I hope I can dance like you! Surimu-chan, ありがとうございます!

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Hello, Jynaie~! Yep, the camera and the size of the room does make me look taller. 😄 I’m so happy to hear that you will continue dancing, and I’m glad that my videos are helpful! “Melancholic” is probably one of my favorite dances of the ones I’ve done so far. ^_^ I’m also glad that you enjoy my blooper videos. 😄 Thank you so much for watching my dances, and I hope you have fun with your dancing~! I must apologize for taking so long to write back; I’m sorry! m(_ _)m Thanks again for watching my videos~!! =D

      • dancingismylife0509 Says:

I have a question? Do you take requests? If so, can you do “ZIGG ZAGG” and/or a tutorial for it? If you don’t take request and don’t have that amongst the list of dances to come, that’s fine. I still will just enjoy the dances you have to offer. By the way, and off topic, your hair is really pretty. ^-^

  18. Stanaarr Says:

Hi Surimu-chan!! I love your dances!! and I always watch your dance tutorials. Thanks to your tutorial I know how to do the Galaxias dance now ^^
just asking, will you ever do Ponponpon by the Vocaloid Rina and Len? It’d be very cute if you did it ^^
anyways, I just wanna tell you that I LOVE YOUR DANCES!!! I hope I can be as good as you 😀

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Hello~! I’m glad you like my dances; thank you for watching them! I’m happy to hear that my tutorials are helpful, too~. ^_^ Unfortunately, I won’t be doing “PONPONPON” (and I really need to mention that in a video, because people have been asking me for about a year orz). Thank you for writing!

  19. Jennifer~ Says:

Hi Surimu-chan! I’ve always loved your videos and came here~ I was surprised that you were 21! You seem like 16 in all your videos, then you talked about working and stuff. I don’t mean this in a mean way.. Hope you don’t take offense >.<

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Hello, Jennifer~! Oh, I’m not offended; I know I don’t really look my age. 😄 It runs in the family~. Thank you for watching my videos! I’m glad you like them! =D

  20. Jessie Logan Says:

Waaa! I love your dance tutorials. Right now I’m doing my best to learn Bad Apple. Your tutorial makes it so easy. though I’m such a slow learner xD
I am gonna try my best to follow this blog. I wanna learn more dances from you. Your dancing is so cute, you really put a lot of effort into learning them and pulling together outfits.
    Keep up the good work!

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Hello, Jessie~! I’m happy to hear that my tutorial is helpful! ^__^ I’m also happy that you enjoy my videos~. I’ll do my best to keep making dance covers! Thank you for watching and writing! =)

  21. Dany Amelie Says:

Oh god Surimu-chan, I love your videos!! you’re so awesome and creative 😀 I always thought I could never dance well, but when I first saw your videos you were like an inspiration for me so I started dancing… I think I’m not too bad (but I’m not brave enough to make a dance cover and upload it to youtube xD) yeah… I’m weird I know 😄 but anyways, just wanted to thank you for that.

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Hi, Dany~! I was so happy to hear that my videos inspired you to start dancing! =D I think dancing is a really great past time, so it’s nice to hear about others enjoying it~. Thank you for watching my videos, and thank you for writing~!

  22. Maik Says:

    Hi Surimu-chan,

first of all I want to say: Happy Birthday… I wish you health and happiness for your future. ^__^

I love your dance videos… You have so much power, your timing is nearly perfect, and your moves are simply awesome. I think you are really one of the best dancers on Youtube … or anywhere else.

I started with dancing about 5 to 6 weeks ago. The first dance, I was successfully working at, was Bad Apple and now I´m “trying” Matryoshka – I know the moves, but I can`t do them, yet. At the moment I think these dances are not for beginners but so far it works; thanks to your dance tutorials ^_^. Perhaps you have a few tips for me.

    Please excuse my bad english.

    • Surimu-chan Says:

      Hello~!
Thank you for the birthday wishes~. ^_^
Thanks so much for your kind comments! I’m so glad that you enjoy my dance videos!
I hope you are having a better time with “Matryoshka.” Unfortunately, I don’t have many specific tips for dances besides “practice,” but I did make a dance tips video that may be of some help (“Surimuchan’s Dance Tips” on YouTube)~. Thank you for watching my videos (and your English is just fine~)! ^_^

  23. Breanna Says:

    Hi!

I really love your videos! Your an amazing dancer! I used to dance when I was in elementary school but now I’m in high school. Anyway, I really want to learn luka luka night fever. would you suggest this for a beginner? and if not, what would you suggest?

    Please and Thank You 😀

    • Surimu-chan Says:

      Hello~!

First of all, I’m sorry for the super-late reply~. m(_ _)m Thank you very much for watching my videos! I’m happy to hear that you like them~. ^__^ As for dances I suggest for beginners, I have a list in the video description of my “Surimuchan’s Dance Tips” video. I try to update it when I come across dances I think would be suitable for beginners. At the moment, the list consists of these dances:

      From Hello! Project
Morning Musume – 3, 2, 1 BREAKIN’ OUT! (Short Vers.)
Berryz Koubou – Kokuhaku no Funsui Hiroba
Tsugunaga Momoko – Momochi! Yurushite Nyan ♡ Taisou
      °C-ute – Aitai Lonely Christmas
°C-ute – Kimi wa Jitensha Watashi wa Densha de Kitaku
Mano Erina – Hajimete no Keiken
Mano Erina – Genkimono de Ikou!
S/mileage – Otona ni Narutte Muzukashii!!!

      Other Dances
      – Suneo no Theme
      – Ochame Kinou

I’m not sure if I’d consider “Luka Luka Night Fever” for absolute beginners, but it couldn’t hurt to give it a try~. ^_^

      Thanks for writing~! =)

    • Surimu-chan Says:

Hello! Sorry for the late reply! m(_ _)m Thank you for watching my dance covers! I’m glad you like them~. ^_^ I don’t know of any online lessons for K-Pop dances… I’ve made some step-by-step tutorials for dances, but they’re all J-Pop songs. You can try searching for mirrored or slowed videos or tutorials of the dances that you’re looking for, but I’m afraid I don’t know of any offhand. (^_^”)> Sorry that I couldn’t help! m(_ _)m
